Thirteen years ago, Ed and I tied the knot and settled in Fort McMurray, AB. However, city life just wasn't for us. Fortunately, Ed's dad inherited a beautiful piece of property right next to Ed's childhood home, where his family still resides. He generously gifted us 154 acres of land, but it was almost completely untouched wooded land, with only a trail at the time. We rolled up our sleeves to clear the land and construct our dream off-grid home. Utilizing the trees from the property, we made lumber with a bandsaw, and Ed, alongside his dad, built our house and a wood shed. Living here has been incredible, and we've taken on numerous projects, including building a chicken coop, a root cellar, various sheds, a small greenhouse, and establishing a 7,000 sq/ft garden that we continually improve. This place truly feels like home.
